Locked Doors Portrait 2020 | Photography of Lisa Carpenter

How many times can I start a blog with the words, “What a great 2020!”?

It’s difficult, stressful, anxiety-inducing and at times, downright depressing.

But, thank God for the unbelievably hot English summers that mean we all get more time with our families, exercise daily, read more, eat al fresco, quizzes, booze, and step to our doorsteps to family photo!

This may be a somewhat unusual prospect, and certainly not one I’ve entertained before, but a need must!

I want to take pictures, I want to chat, I want to bring a little joy!

And I think all of that was achieved with the 2020 Lockdown Doorstep Portraits Project!

Not only did a local family get some beautiful photos to remember the positives from this crazy time, but we managed to raise a sizable donation to The Trussell Trust Food Bank in Erdington, a very worthy recipient of your kind donations.

It was so fun to come out and meet you all! Some of you I know very well, some I haven’t seen for a long time and I also met a lovely new family. Everyone, I hope, will be back for more family photos in the future, when we’re allowed out again!

Some of you have older kids at home and it was the perfect opportunity to get that long awaited photo together.

Some throw a birthday party at the door with balloons, cake and fizz!

Some families have newborns, and others are showing up!

I didn’t want to miss Lockdown Doorstep Portraits 2020, so here we are – me, boys and girls!

At our own little doorstep in the summer of 2020 – tired, a bit grey, unmarried but healthy and happy! (And isn’t that the best thing we could ask for this year? 🙂 )
