The big revelation I got in Africa is how much I love elephants. Not that I hated them before… who could hate elephants? But my level of concern for them is somewhere in between indifference and like. What finally struck me was how peaceful and attractive the creatures seemed to me. I think they operate on different time scales. I also sometimes wonder if they exist in other universes, but they seem to exist in ours.
