If you read yesterday’s blog post, you already know all about me being cold-blooded.
Thankfully, I put it together for Mary’s shoot and *definitely* assured everyone in attendance that I was 100% relaxed and not at all nervous about shooting for the person I’ve admired for over a decade.
Of course.
We shot mainly at J&M’s home in New Haven, CT, and went to the nearby Yale campus and lighthouse for some additional shots. One of the editors from Mary’s publishing house, Kelsey, is ready to shoot! It was VERY helpful to hear more about the book from Kelsey’s perspective, and see some of the proof pages she brought with her to see how the layouts would fit together.
For Mary’s full day shoot, we were lucky enough to have my stylist, Katherine, on set for wardrobe and help with styling sets, which is part of the reason we got to see as much as we could in that amount of time. we did!
I started sweating a little as we neared the end, nervous we’d run out during the day, but we finished just in time and ended the day with a few after-dark shots on J&M’s front porch on the beach, with a charcuterie board to boot.
I want to officially request that all brand shoots end with ocean views and cheeseboards.
I sent a preview set to Mary a few days after shooting it and the sound memo I got back is one of my favorite sound cuts of all time- “OHHHH EMMMMM GEEEE… we are all dying, UNDERSTAND how it turns out!”
This session was amazing from start to finish. From Mary’s clarity of vision, to her willingness to go all out to make this shot a huge success (like painting her kitchen TWO DAYS earlier!), and her ability to put a team together, it was an absolute DREAM! And now seeing these photos right on the page of her new book, Slow Growth Equals Strong Roots, is simply incredible.
Maria, from the bottom of my heart, Thank You. Thank you for trusting me to shoot for you, for giving me so much creative license, for growing so easily in my genius zone. It was an absolute privilege to shoot for you, and I can’t wait to see how your book continues to impact the lives of your readers!
Here are some favorites from the full gallery packed full!
Can we all stop to admire the Katherine-style handwork on the shelves? She did that while we were in the other room, and when we walked in and saw the final product, I think Mary was almost in tears. I LOVE having on-set style assistance at brand shoots!
I love them together. Like very much.
