Michael Grade opens LSBU Elephant Studios | London Interior Photographer
The new Elephant Studios created by London South Bank University (LSBU) for News and Broadcasting students have been recognized as a facility of professional standards in Southwark. All departments and facilities are found in live studios providing students with a realistic environment complete with the latest equipment.
The newsroom developed for journalism courses features a 42″ overhead screen, an 80-channel and audio mixer, and a News Synergy Workstation. Next door the Mac Lab provides a student study area with 25 quad-core IMacs for digital study and media workshops. The site has undergone extensive structural repairs to physically isolate the Elephant Studios space from vibration and noise from tube lines passing nearby. The new Elephant Studios creates an ‘in house’ commercial radio station with a four person radio studio connected to a radio control room with a five channel mixer, audio playback and live equipment. The sound studio has been designed to accommodate small bands with acoustic controls and a live room. The console is an AWS 924 Delat SSL with Dynaudio AIR and Genelec monitoring. The sound facility is complemented by seven colorful editing suites for video and sound all on a 10Gb/s network.
Project previews and films are shown in Elephant Studios’ 36-seat 5.1 screening cinema with ipad controlled screening and lighting. Photography students have pro facilities with dual height areas complete with tracked light grids, air conditioning and separate colorama systems.
