Bath University New 10 West Psychology Building Atrium
10 West is the University of Bath’s new £30 million Psychology faculty building on Bath’s Claverton Campus. With more than 15,000 students and 2,600 staff, the university is an important part of the city’s academic, social and economic life. 10 West creates a new hub for the rapidly growing Department of Psychology and provides dedicated teaching, research accommodation and laboratory areas. The building is at the west end of campus and provides impressive views of historic Bath, a World Heritage site.

The design approach was to create a building that integrates academic staff, PhD students and research associates with students to promote a collaborative environment. The Graduate Commons area has been created as an environment for postgraduate and research students for self-study, group work and networking.
The L-shaped building has an impressive glass atrium with a precast concrete staircase that provides access to six floors. Five miles of pipe and 450 tonnes of plasterboard were installed within the structure.
