Just had a great time wandering the Big Apple in search of holiday lights, in the company of some really cool photographers, and with the super talented duo, Fancy Girl Street Boy. (Alternatively known as Liza Politi and Ari Espay.)
The thronging holiday crowds suggest the town is back, at least in terms of visitors, once again brimming with its usual energy and vibrancy. Moving through the streets is like playing rugby, and finding a seat in a restaurant is akin to searching for a lost ark.
Times Square, never a shrinking purple somewhere, even has a constant blowing of air through the bars near a statue of Pastor Duffy where people can walk in and pose Marilyn.
And then there’s SantaCon.
As their website says….“SantaCon is a charitable, non-political, no-nonsense Santa Claus convention that happens once a year to spread absurd joy.”
And believe me, these good-natured people are ready for a snap.
Santa galore! And Santa’s helper.
It was such a crowd pleaser that I could aim and move completely automatically, and rarely even looked through the camera. I’m using the Z 9, with the new 17-28mm f2.8, with aperture priority of about -.3EV, eye detect AF. And my lamp is a Profoto A10, programmed on Auto, around +.5EV, and equipped with the new ProClic softbox. Light is controlled, seamlessly, from the new Connect Pro. Shoot and move.
Big crowd, lots of fun. Thank you very much to the organizers for letting me on the bus.
And thanks to Ari Espay for making my shot above.
Happy Holidays to all….peace on the streets, and everywhere…..
