The Core is a visitor and teaching center designed by Jolyon Brewis of Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners at the Eden Project, St Austell, Cornwall. The inspiration for the structure is ‘nature architecture’ and incorporates a central trunk and a shaded canopy roof. The striking feature roof is constructed of wooden beams curved intricately in a Fibonacci spiral. This pattern was discovered by Fibonacci in nature in many forms including sunflower seed heads, snail shells, and pine cones. The wooden ceiling bears a marked resemblance to the roof that was installed on the Savill Building in Berkshire.

The structure was built near the Eden biome in a reclaimed Chinese clay quarry. The walls are insulated with recycled newspapers and warm or cold air ground pipes taking them 2m underground before entering the building. Photovoltaic panels on the copper roof provide electricity. Structural beams are a glue-coated layer of Timber (Glulam) that provides great strength for unusual support designs or large spans.
